Where Legal Expertise meets a Strong Technical Background.

Daisy is an Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), and a Registered Patent and Trademark Agent (dual registration) with the College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents (CPATA), making her a one-stop-shop for both patent and trademark protection services.

Daisy has over a decade of experience working with various technology companies, including hi-tech start-ups, SMEs and large international corporations to serve their intellectual property needs. Coupled with a strong technical background in physics and engineering, Daisy monitors the evolving intellectual property landscape and recent case law to be on the leading edge of legal developments. Daisy’s expertise is in preparing, filing, prosecuting and managing patent and trademark applications, and developing a comprehensive IP Strategy to align with company business goals.

A History of Scientific Distinction and Innovation.

Daisy holds a Ph.D in Physics (Optics-Photonics & Computer Modeling) from the Centre for Research in Photonics at the University of Ottawa, from the research group of Professor Xiaoyi Bao, Canada Research Chair in Optics and Photonics. Her doctorial thesis work involved the study of advanced laser light scattering techniques in optical fibers, the development of mathematical algorithms and computer simulations, and their applications in telecommunications, optical fiber sensing, photonic computing, and fiber-optic components. Daisy is the author of 5 peer-reviewed journal publications in prestigious scientific journals, and is an inventor of 3 patents in the USA and Canada.

With an extensive technical background in physics and engineering, Daisy possesses a thorough understanding of the science behind technological innovations, and is able to communicate with inventors at their high level of technical understanding. Daisy also has exposure to working in laboratories and clean rooms around the world, and has obtained an extensive knowledge of advanced manufacturing techniques and practices for various technologies. Being an inventor herself, Daisy also has a unique appreciation for the innovation process from the inventor’s point of view.

Daisy applies the knowledge and experience she gained during her time as in-house IP counsel in the hi-tech industry, working in private practice, and in academia collaborating with leading scientists and researchers, to develop a multi-faceted strategy for IP protection and various IP needs.

A Spotlight on Trademarks and Branding.

Daisy has experience in managing the trademark portfolio of a leading global corporation for over half a decade, working closely with the Director of Marketing and team to support the development of a comprehensive worldwide branding strategy for the company. Daisy’s expertise includes developing IP protection strategies that include considerations in brand assessment, marketing strategies, corporate image, competitive landscape mapping and company identity.

Sharing the Knowledge: IP Training & Strategy.

Daisy provides training and education on various topics in IP, including seminars on various types of IP and IP rights, the importance of IP Valuation and Commercialization, building an IP roadmap, How to Apply for a Patent or Trademark in Canada or the USA, IP Strategy development, How to Navigate an IP Landscape, Building a “Clean IP Foundation,” and other educational sessions on building a powerful IP portfolio.
